Last Post !!!!!!!

1)This years Math Class went well, it challenged my math skills. And pushed me to learn more and do more then just the work. This class taught me that math can be like any other class where you can research and and write.
2) Yes, I would like you to send my letter
3) Next year you might want to start kind of like an after school program, for extra help of maybe even during lunch or something. And maybe make the community box maker a little more fun

Exit 5/6

1. My overall task was to graph my new surface area and find the minimum, also to use TI connect to caputer our images which was the graph and fuction from the calcultor. We was also suppose to save our images on goggle docs.

2.This is necessary to reduce the surface area keeping the volume the same and show the readers what we did and give them an explaination on what steps we took.

Exit Slip 5/4

1)The new surface area is going to be used for this project when i try to define the height for my can, and also when i simplifying my functions. The ultimate goal is to use the new function in solving for the height of the cans, also to make our can cheaper by using less material but still keeping the same volume. I will use the new SA function to find the minimum.

2) I would use this function to visually represent the relationship between the height by changing it also by showing the difference between the surface area maybe doing a before and after model. Also by creating an actual figure and changing the height and surface area of my can in order to show the relationship between the two. I will use the function to graph the relationship betweenthe radius and the SA and find the minimum.

Exit slip 5/3

1. It is necessary to combine two formulas in so that we can simplify our formulas, and find the surface area and the height, because we had to eliminate the height in the surface area function and leave the radius as the only independent variable. With this i found the minimum surface area r being the independent variable and SA being the dependent variable. The goal was simply to eliminate one out of two of the variables so we can one independent variable for the surface area.
2. I would need to combine the surface area formula along with the volume of a cylinder, i would need to know how to find my height, volume and surface area. I would need to know how to substitute values, divide, simplified as also justifying to apply it to me can i would also have to know my units. You need to simplify the the volume and surface area of a cylinder. Then you would also need to Solve for Height, so that you can substitute it into the surface area formula. When finishing with all of it you would need to Justify the steps it took to get the SA formula. Then you wouldn't , so you apply those and you DONE.

Exit Slip 4/30

This PBAt is called the Can Project. The task of this PBAT is to minimize the material that is being used for cans or cylinder due to the company i pick is being pressured by consumers. The task is to write a letter to the company that pick depending on the company of can presenting the dimensions of my old and new can. I must come up with a way to make the can cheaper but i must still use the same materials, but still keeping the same amount of content of the can.I have to make two physical models of my can before and after pictures. The way to do this is you must keep the same volume of the can but make the surface area smaller. Next we must find the radius, and height of the can as well. This is all a process of measuring all the dimension and knowing what you need to eliminate to minimize the material being used by these companies.

Exit Slip 4/27/10

Today some important concepts of the lesson was solving for the heights using radius and volume . And also maintaining the volume, and watching how much the radius changes when the height changes.Today the mathematical tools i used were the calculator , which helped me figure out my height, i used the computer to open a new google document well we used spread sheet and in the spread sheet i input my table of solving for the heights for my can. I also graphed the table, i named the graph Radius vs Height. The fact that we have used google document and spread sheet before made it helpful because i was familiar with working it, i know how to create the table, graph it and name it. This tool made my job easier by being very fast, its better then having to sit there and draw a table, then make a graph, knowing what scale to use our what axis is what, the spreadsheet did made it way easier for me, and its making my PBAT come along very well.

Exit Slip 4/23/10

Me, Shai'Eika, Grace and Angela helped each other, by helping each other measuring and reminding each other about the formulas. I was able to to accomplish getting my measurements for example my diameter, radius, height and calculated my volume and surface area, i did both of my tables and did my calculations .

I learned measuring skills, and using formulas , and remembering my units. The skills I learned today were also how to find the height and diameter of a can or cylinder. For right now I don't have any questions to ask I understand everything that owe are going to be doing for the PBAT. I will be able to use these skills outside of school when dealing with circles,SAT,even when dealing with items that are in a cylinder for example caned food, chips, drinks.

Writing Objectively - 2. Tables Exit Slip 4/20/10

The results of my calculations from the two functions are shown in Table 1. The first function is y1=4x^3+5 and the second function is y2=7x^3+100.

The first column contains some values for the independent x. The scale of these values: -25 to 25 it was chosen randomly, first. The scale is set to 5.

The X values were substituted into the function, y1, and the results are displayed in the second column. Since y1 is a cubic function , I notice as the x-values increase the y-values decrease, from 0 to -25. And from 5- 25 as the x-values increase the y-value increase.

Since y2 is a cubic function y-values for y2=7x^3+100 are shown in the third column of table 1. The y-value first decrease as x-value increase from 0 to -25, then from 5 to 25 the x-value increase and the y-value increase.

Exit Slip 4/15/10

The curvature of y2,compared to y1 is narrower and y1 is wider.
Compared to y1, y2's graph is shifted vertically. I see this in the graph by noting that the minimum point of y1 (0,100), and the maximum point of y2 is (0,-100). There is no horizontal shift because the lines have the same pattern horizontally.
The minimums and maximum line up at x=0.

Exit Slip Lesson 3 4/12/10

To compare and contrast two functions you use the first graph and table you created on spreadsheet (which is used mainly for graphing) and the formula you used and just make it the opposite sign if it is negative make the second functions positive if it was positive make it negative for example:
or
Then you drag down from the cell, creating column c which is the second line on the graph and you should have your number for Y2, edit graph rename it:compare and contrast two functions, make sure you label the y's with the function.

After, that you must make a table that includes Categories which will be your functions ,Highest degree term which is the highest term,Next degree term and Constant Term ( which is also known as the loswest term) on Google Docs. You also compare them by discussing how the graph changed do the go different ways, have the same turns. For my functions i only had the higest terms for example: and and 0 for the constant and next degree.

1) One major idea i learned today was that when using spredsheet, in order to graph or even do a table you don't need to put in all the equations you can just make an equation using the cells and just drag it down.
2) One major problem i had was finding an equation that made a curve, next time i just will take my time, im pretty sure that i know to do it on my own now and can do it alone.

Progress 2

Well my group is moving at an okay pace. We are using the other Box project we did before to help guide us in this project. We all have our tables, we are done with generalizing and checking them with calculators.Mygeneralized fromual for (130-(4x+20))*(x+10)*(X) from FEDEX EXPRESS and (84-(4x+20))*(x+10)*(X) for Ground. Some formulas we used were:Length= Girth- total,Girth= 2(height+width) and volume= length x width x height We are using the Fed Ex express (130) and FedEx Ground (84). The designs we used are Width= 2x,Width= 3x,Width= x+5 and Width= x+ 10(my design), we used it for both shipping methods (FedEx Express and FedEx Ground),We generalized by using x ,the formula of Girth, formula for volume. We also checked each others work just to make sure.
We are now graphing all 8 tables, it is hard because we most find a X-scale which we decided to go by ones and Y-scale,which we deiced to go by 5,000's we needed it to work for all our calculations. And we also have to type the tables. We also hope that our graph turns out to be a 3rd degree parabola. To determine our scales we compared every ones and realized Angela was the and we got it biggest so we know it had to be greater then 137,0000.
My maximum value Y for FedEx Ground is 4816.96779 and Max X= 9.57 for FedEx Express max Y is 19278.268 and MaxX is 17.04469. Sha'Eika max value Y for FedEx Express is 20072.0 and Max X 19.3.For FedEx Ground her Max X is 11.6 and Max Y 5314.8. For Express Sha'Eika has a bigger volume because her deign, making mines more flatter. For Ground the volumes is still smaller.
We organized it by doing different tables I kind of wondering how writing the paper is going to turn out, i have been thinking should we spilt the paper into different parts and then put it all together or just do it as a group. If we do it as a group we might have to come after school or lunch time. So the plan for Thursday is for Grace to finish the last part of graphing and the rest of us double check everything is correct. Angela start typing the tables and me and Sha'Eika start the paper OR at least have someone in the group start these things. We might need a few more days to finish the paper.
It took some time for us to all get on the same page put i think we are all doing a great job. We dived the jobs.Grace did a great job graphing and made up for the day she missed. This blog thing is really getting to me i am starting not to like it at all. I am willing to work in a group but i rather work alone.

Progress 1 (Clooney)

i just finished my second table. My group was little behind today but we caught up Thanks To ME!. Now all we need to do is make sure other group mates finish their table, so that we can move on.We completed 8 tables we all did different designs and used to shipping methods. We are using the FedEx Express(130) and FedEx Ground (84). Our deigns were width=3x, Width=2x, width Width= x+5 ,Width= x+10. My maximum value Y for FedEx Ground is 4816.96779 and Max X= 9.57 for FedEx Express max Y is 19278.268 and MaxX is 17.04469. Sha'Eika max value Y for FedEx Epress 20072.0 and Max X 19.3. For FedEx Ground her Max X is 11.6 and Max X 5314.8 . Angela and Grace are still not done.

Team George Clooney

When the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warned that their air transportations to help war-torn Darfur, Sudan, would soon stop due to lack of funds, George Clooney stepped up with his charity group Not On Our Watch by contributing $6.24 million to keep their air transport operations going.George Clooney's Hope For Haiti telethon delivered all the best of the world's A-List talent in the fields of TV, movies and music - and then some. - begging for help for the impoverished Caribbean nation that was all but destroyed when a powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit on Tuesday January 12th.George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio are opening up their wallets to help victims in the earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
Clooney is donating $1 million to Friday's "Hope for Haiti Now" celebrity telethon. He officially made his donation during the telecast.George Clooney met with President Obama and Vice President Biden separately at the White House and they told him they would appoint a full-time, high-level envoy on Darfur that would report directly to the White House.George has stood in line with pals Matt Damon and Brad Pitt for a chance to make a difference with the ONE campaign
, fighting AIDS and extreme poverty on a global scale. He has also supported Rock for Darfur, a series of concerts put on by MySpace in which money raised went to Oxfam’s Sudan Crisis Relief and Rehabilitation Fund. He’s also a strong supporter of Save Darfur, and pleaded with the U.N. Security Council to step in and find a solution for the situation in Sudan’s Darfur region, calling it the first holocaust of the 21st century.
"We were brought up to believe that the U.N. was formed to ensure that the Holocaust couldnever happen again."

EC

There isn't any boxes with the same dimensions, but there is two boxes with similar dimensions which is the priority mail medium flat rate box-0-frb2 and priority mail medium flat rate box-0-frb1. The minimum is 1 pack of 10 or 25 boxes and the maximum is 20 packs of 25 boxes (500 boxes total).

Question ???????

-Will we be using real boxes for this project?
- Are we going to be doing a paper ?
- When working as a group, is it going to be a group of 3 more?
- Is everyone in the group need thier own things?
- Are we going to be able come after school or during lunch for help ?
-When are we going to start the real thing?

1st Math Blog

Well it is my 1st blog and i am not so happy about using it.I am using blogger to start my PBAT project , during this project we are going to compare the UPS and FedEx boxes and how much weight they can hold and sizes.
Wish Me LUCK !
